What you can do before an MoT

These steps could help your car pass its MoT

There are a number of steps you can take prior to your MoT to minimise the risk of a failure.

Check the tyres for tread depth. The legal minimum is 1.6mm. Also check for any bulges or uneven wear and replace as needed.
Check for damage in the area the wipers cover, such as cracks or large chips. Also check the wiper blades are in good condition and that the washer jets are working and pointed at the screen.
Check all the lights work, easy to miss ones are the number plate lights which should be on when the side lights or headlights are on.
The seat belts need to be undamaged, not frayed and the locks should lock and unlock easily.
The dash can't have an engine check light on or airbag lights. Please book in for a diagnostics check prior to MoT.
Please check the oil before attending your MoT and make sure there is fuel in the car as we may have to run it for a while to do emmission tests.
